General Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements:

Entry requirements differ according to the levels of the various programmes offered at African Academy. Please refer to the individual programme fact sheets for entry requirements of the programme that interests you. Alternatively please contact African Academy for further information in this regard.

Technical Aptitude:

In addition to the above minimum entry requirements, all applicants are required to take a potential battery Index (PBI) test in order to ascertain whether or not the potential learner has the aptitude for a career in computer aided drawing and draughting.

General Admission Procedures

General Admission Process:

Step 1	The prospective student makes contact with African Academy
Step 2	He/she completes an Application for Admission and submits it to African Academy with the required documentation attached
Step 3	The prospective student will be invited to African Academy to complete an admission assessment
Step 4	If the prospective student qualifies for the respective programme, he/she will receive a phone call
Step 5	On acceptance, the prospective student is required to register by completing an enrolment contract and paying a deposit to secure his/her place at the Academy. Deposits may differ from one programme to the other – please request the programme fees schedule from the Academy
Step 6	The full programme fees are payable prior to commencement of classes, after which the individual is officially enrolled at African Academy
Step 7	The student commences his/her programme according to the academic calendar for the respective programme

Financial Assistance/Aid

Prospective learners that are financially disadvantaged may apply to the African Academy for financial assistance. The following must be borne in mind:

Only learners whose gross monthly household income is below R 8,000.00 qualify for financial assistance
Applicants must complete the official African Academy Application for Financial Assistance
Learners and/or their parents/guardians are required to provide proof of income (payslip, pension slip or affidavit if unemployed)

Closing dates for admission

Registration for admission will close when class quotas have been filled irrespective of any dates furnished, and/or at the discretion of the African Academy. The Academy may also at its discretion accept late registrations provided the respective classes are not filled. Management of the academy will then determine the final closing dates for registration and enrolment.

Admission documentation

Learners who register at the African Academy for the first time must, on registration, submit the following:

Certified records of formal qualifications and of prior learning through formal, informal and non-formal learning and/or work; and/or
Last statement of results from School/College;
Certified copy of the first page of their identity document. Married or divorced women must submit proof of their maiden name where certificates are in their maiden name.

Foreign Learners

Foreign Learners are required to pay the full cash fee for any programme upon acceptance and registration.
Foreign Learners are also required to pay any other required fees in full prior to commencement of classes (registration fees, institute fees, book fees, etc.).
A certified copy of the foreign Learner’s passport together with a copy of a valid study permit must be presented on registration
The foreign Learner must provide a copy of the evaluation of his/her foreign schooling from the HSRC – SAQA (as proof that the education received is equivalent to that of a South African Senior certificate).
MDDOP N4/N5 or other nated qualification, then their qualifications must be certified by commission of Examiners.

Minors

Registration forms of student, who are minors at the time of registration, must be co-signed by a parent or a legal guardian.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Learners, who have previously studied at another accredited tertiary institution, and who wish to gain entry into any of the African Academy programmes, must be consulted regarding the Academy RPL Policies and Procedures, and where applicable must be advised regarding applying for an RPL Assessment.

Language Policy

English is the medium of instruction and administration at the African Academy.
English is an international language for communication in the drawing, draughting and related fields.
English is both the medium of teaching and of assessment.
On registration all applicants must have attained a certain level of proficiency in English
English is the language of internal governance and of administration within the African Academy.
All English communication must be clear and concise and gender-sensitive.
